IIOE and Alibaba Cloud Co-launch Generative AI Courses

On December 19, 2024, two courses were newly launched on the IIOE platform, as a collaboration between the International Institute of Online Education (IIOE) and its corporate partner, Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group. The courses aim to help higher education teachers and leaders in developing countries effectively apply generative AI in their teaching and management practices. Offered as open educational resources, these courses can be accessed by the public for free on the IIOE online learning platform.

Course 1: Fundamentals of Generative AI in Higher Education
Course Introduction
This course starts from the basic concepts and applications of AI, then delves into Generative AI, exploring their advantages, types, workflows and applications across various fields. The course explains abstract concepts with easily understandable graphics, and also provides practical examples of integrating Generative AI into teaching activities to make learning more engaging, personalized, and efficient. Participants completing this course will gain a deeper understanding of Generative AI application in education, as well as the potential risks and drawbacks associated with Generative AI, and will be ready to harness the power of Generative AI in teachers’ work.
Course 2:Visual Storytelling with Generative AI in the Classroom
Course Introduction
This course offers a fascinating journey into the world of data visualization, tracing data visualization evolution from historical milestones to contemporary practices, then provides a comprehensive introduction to data visualization definitions, applications, key components, tools, and hands-on demos. Learners taking this course will gain the fundamental concepts of data visualization, as well as basic operations about how to transform raw data into insightful visuals, and will be ready to equip themselves with necessary skills to craft their own effective data visualizations and derive more value from their data.
Webinar on the Course Launch
On December 19, 2024, IIOE hosted a webinar titled "Generative AI in Higher Education – Unveiling Cutting-edge Courses and Technologies," marking the launch of its new courses. The keynote expert invited for this webinar is Amey Daulat Birje, an IT training expert from Alibaba Cloud; he gave an in-depth presentation on how generative AI is driving industry transformation and the emerging AI models.
The event attracted over 600 participants from more than 70 countries, including faculty from IIOE partner universities such as the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria, and UET Lahore University of Engineering and Technology in Pakistan. During the webinar, higher education professionals engaged in lively discussions on topics such as "How to Use Generative AI for Course Design," "The Accessibility of AI Technologies in Low-Income Countries," and "Ethical Guidelines for AI in Teaching."
