ICHEI Established Strategic Partnership with Alibaba Cloud
On September 19, 2024, representatives from the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI) attended the Apsara Conference 2024 in Hangzhou and signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Alibaba Cloud. The two parties will jointly launch an online programme for micro-certification in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and cloud computing, promoting the widespread application of GenAI and cloud computing technologies in global higher education institutions, aiding the digital transformation and innovative development of global higher education.
The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. LI Ming, Secretary-General of IIOE Secretariat, UNESCO-ICHEI, Mr. SIT Fung, Chief of International Institute of Online Education (IIOE) Management Centre, Ms. Elina Yuan, President of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence International, Senior Vice President of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Group, and other leaders from Alibaba Cloud.
Through the GenAI and cloud computing micro-certification online project, the two sides will jointly offer multiple micro-certification courses. The goal is to help educators and students in higher education institutions in Asia and Africa understand the fundamentals of GenAI and cloud computing and apply them in teaching and daily learning. For example, educators can learn how to use large language models to prepare teaching materials, design classroom activities, and create teaching plans and assessment strategies, making learning more engaging, personalized, and efficient. Upon completing the courses and passing the exams, students will receive micro-certification jointly issued by UNESCO-ICHEI and Alibaba Cloud. The two parties expect that as the project gradually expands, by the end of 2025, approximately 12,000 educators and students worldwide will benefit from the programme.
UNESCO-ICHEI will continue to deepen its cooperation with leading global companies, integrating quality resources to promote the application of cutting-edge technologies in higher education. Through innovative cooperation models, it aims to continually support the construction of a global educational innovation ecosystem and enhance the sustainable development of higher education.
