University of Science and Technology Houari Boumedienne

University of Science and Technology Houari Boumedienne a renowned institution of higher education in Algeria, located in the town of Bab Ezzouar, 15 kilometers east of the capital, Algiers. The university was designed by the famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and was officially inaugurated in 1974. As the largest university in Algeria until 2013, USTHB had an enrollment of over 20,000 students.

With the implementation of the Algerian government's "2010–2014 Five-Year Plan," which aimed to increase the number of university students nationwide from 1.2 million to 2 million, new universities have rapidly emerged across the country. Some of these newly established institutions have since surpassed USTHB in terms of student population. The university currently comprises faculties such as the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering, and continues to play a key role in training scientific and technical talent for the North African region.
