Nigerian National Policy Dialogue

National Dialogue on Consensus Framework Towards a Policy/Guideline Roadmap for Nigerian Higher Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
Under the guidance of Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Education through the National Universities Commission, the event was co-organised by UNESCO-ICHEI and Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria, serving as the 2024 IIOE Chair Institution. Nearly 200 higher education stakeholders participated, including representatives from the National Universities Commission, Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the Nigerian Communications Commission, the Embassy of China in Nigeria, the National Board for Technical Education, the National Commission for Colleges of Education, the National Open University of Nigeria, the UNESCO Liaison Office to the African Union, and Huawei Technologies Nigeria. The dialogue focused on advancing policy discussions regarding the integration of AI into Nigeria's higher education system. -
2025 World Digital Education Conference (Wuhan)
From May 14th to 16th, 2025, the 2025 World Digital Education Conference was successfully held in Wuhan, China. This conference was jointly organized by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, the National Commission of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization of China, and the Government of Hubei Province. The theme of the conference was "Education Development and Transformation: The Era of Intelligence". On the afternoon of May 15th, under the guidance of the Secretariat of the National Commission of UNESCO of China, the Department of Science, Technology, and Information of the Ministry of Education, the 2025 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Education was successfully held. UNESCO-ICHEI as a supporting unit, participated in the conference. The director of UNESCO-ICHEI, Mr. JIN Li, presided over the discussion session. The discussion on "Creating a Global Vision for Educational Transformation" was held, and UNESCO-ICHEI and the International Institute of Online Education (IIOE) were sharing the practice of building a multilateral cooperation ecosystem network to support higher education institutions in enhancing their artificial intelligence capabilities and promoting the localization of partners, in order to meet the urgent local needs to cope with the future era.

China-Africa-UNESCO dialogue on education and cultural heritage protection
On 6 September 2024, the "China-Africa-UNESCO dialogue on education and cultural heritage protection", co-hosted by the Chinese government and UNESCO, was successfully held in Beijing, China. Professor Jin Li, Director of UNESCO-ICHEI and Vice President of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), delivered a keynote presentation titled "Strengthening China-Africa Cooperation Through Digital Empowerment in Higher Education". He announced that, over the next three years, UNESCO-ICHEI will provide digital and AI skills training for 35,000 African higher education professionals, supporting and implementing action plans for China-Africa collaboration.

Global MOOC and Online Education Conference
From 2021 to 2022, UNESCO-ICHEI and Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) jointly hosted the conference's sub-forums for two consecutive years. The sub-forum themes were "Building Future-Ready Higher Education Through Equitable and High-Quality Blended Online Learning" and "Digital Transformation in Higher Education and Enhancing Faculty Digital Literacy". The 2024 Global MOOC and Online Education Conference was held at Queen Mary University of London from 12 to 13 December 2024. Professor Wei Han, Executive Deputy Secretary-General of IIOE, participated as a speaker in the roundtable discussion on "Ethical Risks of AI: Global Challenges and Countermeasures". She shared insights on UNESCO-ICHEI's multilateral cooperation network and its effective practices in supporting capacity building for higher education professionals and institutions.

World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit
In September 2021 and November 2023, IIOE, the flagship project of UNESCO-ICHEI and the Smart Classroom project were selected as "Excellent Cases of Working Together to Build a Community of Shared Future in Cyberspace".
