Smart Classroom in Indonesia Officially Unveiled

On 3 October 2022, Smart Classroom, a joint initiative of UNESCO-ICHEI, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), CreateView Education Technology (CreateView) and Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), was successfully inaugurated at ITB, Indonesia.

Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Rector of ITB, opened the ceremony. She expressed a warm welcome and sincere thanks to all parties that have supported Smart Classroom. She noted that Indonesia is developing unprecedented cooperation with China in a number of areas such as research, innovation, and higher education, and has made significant progress. She hoped that the Smart Classroom donated by CreateView would be of great benefit to Indonesian students and teachers, and would help enhance the blended learning capacity of ITB. Meanwhile, she expressed the hope to expand the project to the other two campuses of ITB and to encourage more colleges to join the project.

Prof. LI Ming, Director of UNESCO-ICHEI, commented that the Smart Classroom project is a sustainable and long-term partnership between UNESCO-ICHEI and ITB. Along with the software and other resources provided through the International Institute of Online Education, Smart Classroom will contribute to teachers' digital competency training. He also highly praised CreatView for its commitment to international education charity work through global collaboration. Lastly, he expressed his expectations to see Smart Classroom continuing to expand in scale and quality as well as to play an increasingly important role under the effective leadership of experts from ITB.


As the donor of Smart Classroom, Mr. ZHANG Yu, Chairman of CreatView, attended the launch ceremony and delivered a speech, pointing out that CreatView has been adherent to its mission of "building a world of education equity through innovation", and hoping that Smart Classroom will benefit the members of ITB community in their teaching and learning activities, and in particular, play a key role in supporting distance learning during the pandemic. He said that CreatView will continue to contribute to the digitization transformation of higher education and the promotion of educational equity.


As one of the project's key stakeholders, Dr. CHEN Hao, Executive Deputy Director of SUSTech Global, spoke on behalf of SUSTech and presented a series of its achievements. He expressed wishes to collaborate with ITB, and elaborated on potential areas of collaboration including the cultivation of digital talents.

Dr. Wahyudi, Director of SEAMOLEC, congratulated the official launch of Smart Classroom and showed his keen interest in the utilization of the facility for future training programs. Prof. Paulina Pannen, Chair of Indonesia Cyber Education Institute (ICE-I), reviewed the journey of the Smart Classroom project from inception to implementation over the past two years and said that the official launch of the project was the result of the efforts and collaboration of all parties, and hoped to see more collaboration in the future.

In the end, on behalf of ITB, Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, presented certificates to Mr. Hassan Adeel Shehzad, CTO of Smart Classroom Programme Specialist at UNESCO-ICHEI and Ms. Ibni Inggrianti, expert of Smart Classroom at ITB, for their outstanding contribution to the Smart Classroom project in Indonesia.

Journalists from Indonesian newspapers, Bandung media, and Indonesian Radio conducted in-depth interviews with Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah and Mr. Hassan Adeel Shehzad to understand the background of collaboration and usage of Smart Classroom in the future. Till today, Smart Classroom at ITB has been assembled, configured, and troubleshot, and will soon begin various training sessions.
