UNESCO-ICHEI delegation visited Cameroon, Uganda and Namibia

UNESCO-ICHEI delegation, led by Professor LI Ming, Director of UNESCO-ICHEI, conducted a 10-day official visit to the Republic of Cameroon, the Republic of Uganda and the Republic of Namibia on 14-22th, November 2017. The delegation visited Ministries in charge of higher education and potential partner universities and had intensive discussion with them.In Cameroon, the delegation had discussion with Professor Jacuqes Fame Ndongo, Minister of Higher Education on higher education cooperation and especially ICT application in higher education innovation. Professor Jacques encourages the delegation to participate in the educational digitalization reform in Cameroon. Afterwards, the delegation visited the University of Yaoundé I and had meeting with Professor Jean-Emmanuel Pondi, Vice President of the University of Yaoundé I in charge of research, cooperation and relation with enterprises.Cameroon is located in the region of central Africa, with a population of 23,900,000, a land area of 475442 square kilometers. There are 8 public universities and 215 private higher education institutions in Cameroon, with 500,000 students being enrolled in higher education institutions. The University of Yaoundé I is one of the best comprehensive university in Cameroon.

In Uganda, the delegation visited Uganda Ministry of Education and Sports and had discussion with Hon. Dr. John C. Muyingo, Minister of State for Higher Education and representatives from Ministry of Education and Sports and Uganda National Commission for UNESCO. Besides, Mr CHU Maoming, Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Uganda participated in the meeting and acknowledged the work ICHEI had done. The delegation then visited Makerere University, and met with vice chancellor Professor Barnabas, which contributed to the signing of Memorandun of Understanding. Invited by Professor Tonny J. Oyana, Principal of College of Computing and Information Sciences during a visit to his college, Professor LI Ming left the inscription : 'College of Computing and Information Sciences, Makerere University is taking lead in its academic research and talent cultivation mode and our delegation admires its development model and level. 'Uganda is located in east of Africa and stretched across the equator. Makerere University is the largest and best university in Uganda, and it also enjoyed its reputation as cradle for many independent leaders in African countries.

In Namibia, the delegation visited Namibia Ministry of Higher Education, Training and Innovation and had discussion with Deputy Minister Professor Becky. Professor Becky expressed her appreciation to UNESCO-ICHEI for selecting Namibia as the project country and Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) as the partner university. Professor Becky said that Ministry of Higher Education, Training and Innovation would like to paly an active role in promoting cooperation among SUSTech, UNESCO-ICHEI and NUST. The delegation then visited NUST and met with Deputy Vice-Chancellor. After the meeting, the delegation visited Centre for Open and Lifelong Learning, Library and Quality Assurance Unit.Besides, the delegation visited Namibia Ministry of Information and Communication and had a meeting with Deputy Minister Mr. Stanley Simataa, who is also the President of UNESCO's 38th General Conference and member of UNESCO-ICHEI's Governing Board. Mr. Simataa thanked the delegation for coming to Namibia to discuss future cooperation in higher education and would like to facilitate this process.The Republic of Namibia is in the Southern part of Africa. Namibia University of Science and Technology is a leading university of science and technology in Namibia and it has 6 colleges.

UNESCO-ICHEI delegation visited Library of NUST

During the visit, UNESCO-ICHEI delegation had extensive and intensive exchange and discussion with ministry officials and especially university leaders on areas of common interests, which laid a solid foundation for future cooperation among SUSTech, UNESCO-ICHEI and partner universities. Besides, UNESCO-ICHEI delegation was kindly joined by its strategic partner like Weidong Cloud Eductaion Group, Huawei and other high technology companies in shenzhen during the visit.
