On March 1st, 2017, Prof. Dr. Waqar Mahmood, Director of Huawei UET Telecom and IT Centre, from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore visited ICHEI. He was accompanied by Mr. WU Lintuo, Competence Development Director of EBG Training and Certification of Huawei, and Mr. LIANG Dong, Training Manager of Huawei (Pakistan). During his visit, both parties reached an agreement on collaborating to participate and conduct programmes and research projects.

Prof. Dr. Mahmood briefly introduced University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore and Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science. He also shared that Pakistan had a relatively weak foundation in the areas of biofuel, computer science, coal development, etc. He expressed his hope to join forces with ICHEI, Southern University of Science and Technology, and Huawei in the future to promote the development of these areas in Pakistan.

According to Mr. WU, Huawei initiates research programmes around the globe every year, which provides funding to faculty members, researchers and concerning parties of universities, institutes, and organizations. He encouraged Prof. Dr. Mahmood and his Institute to apply actively. Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy has established partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education in Pakistan, which will promote its training and certification programme. He also shared that while Huawei is dedicated to developing Certification Curriculum 2.0, it still lacks a systematic curriculum, specifically in its native language. Huawei wished to collaborate with ICHEI to develop curriculum and course materials in the future.The University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore Pakistan is the oldest and one of the top ranked public sector engineering university in Pakistan established in 1921. UET, Lahore has 13 years working relationship with Huawei Technologies, China. UET and Huawei have mutually established an IT Centre (HUTIC) in UET, Lahore which has the status of Huawei Authorized IT and Network Academy. The Center has trained more than five thousand engineers so far both from Pakistan and other neighboring countries. Through collaboration with ICHEI to conduct research in higher education, both parties will also agree to promote academic and cultural exchanges in two countries. This partnership will also be of significance to set a solid foundation for ICHEI to carry out projects in Pakistan.
