ICHEI visited Thailand to promote digital transformation in HE
From April 29th to 30th, 2024, a delegation from the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI) visited Thailand. Ms. Bi Xiaohan, Deputy Director of UNESCO-ICHEI, Mr. Sit Fung, Chief of the International Institute of Online Education (IIOE) Management Centre, and Mr. Wu Lintuo, Senior Programme Specialist, visited institutions such as the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Secretariat, UNESCO Multisectional Regional Office in Bangkok (UNESCO Bangkok Office), ASEAN University Network(AUN), and Chulalongkorn University.
In the afternoon of April 29th, the UNESCO-ICHEI delegation visited SEAMEO Secretariat, and held talks with Ms. Pintip Lamnirath, Deputy Director for Admin and Communication, and Mr. Garry Poluan, Learning Innovation and Information Specialist. The two sides had in-depth discussion in areas such as micro-certification, sharing of results from the policy dialogue, and collaboration in conducting research. The SEAMEO Secretariat invited UNESCO-ICHEI to participate in events such as the Conference of SEAMEO Regional Centres and SEAMEO High Official Meeting (HOM). After the meeting, Ms. Bi Xiaohan and Mr. Sit Fung received video interview conducted by SEAMEO, covering topics such as the micro-certification programme and IIOE Global Partnership Network.

In the afternoon of April 29th, the UNESCO-ICHEI delegation visited UNESCO Bangkok Office, and had a meeting with Prof. Libing Wang, Chief of Section for Education, UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok, and Ms. Heejeong Ahn, Programme Specialist of Section for Education. Mr. Sit Fung introduced the current key tasks of UNESCO-ICHEI, including a series of regional high-level policy dialogues, and IIOE micro-certification. Prof. Libing Wang introduced the major tasks of UNESCO Bangkok Office, covering four aspects of work including Recognition of higher education certificate, Quality Assurance, Mobility Scholarship, and certification of MOOCs. The two sides agreed to enhance collaboration in areas such as micro-certifications.

In the afternoon of April 30th, the UNESCO-ICHEI delegation visited ASEAN Universiy Network(AUN) Secretariat, and had a meeting with Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, Executive Director of AUN Secretariat, and Mr. Korn Rattanagosoom, Deputy Director and Chief Strategy Officer. The two sides discussed the current status and prospects of digitalization in higher education in Southeast Asia, reached consensus on sharing intellectual achievements and institutional partnership networks, and explored potentials of collaboration such as empowering online learning platforms with Artificial Intelligence technology.

In the afternoon of April 30th, the UNESCO-ICHEI delegation visited Chulalongkorn University and had a meeting with Dr. Ram Piyaket, Director of the Office of International Affairs and Global Network of Chulalongkorn University, Dr. Preechaya Sittipunt, Chief of the Global Learning Officer, and Dr. Atiwong Suchato, Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Engineering, Chulalongkorn University. The two sides reviewed the cooperation achievements since the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) in September 2022, confirmed the cooperation focus for the next stage, such as jointly developing micro-certification courses and constructing smart classrooms, and discussed the potential of jointly building the IIOE Thailand National Centre.

Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization(SEAMEO) Secretariat The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization(SEAMEO) is a regional intergovernmental organization established in 1965 among governments of Southeast Asian countries to promote regional cooperation in education, science and culture in the region. SEAMEO Secretariat is the executive arm of the SEAMEO Council and the headquarters of the Organisation. The SEAMEO Secretariat is located in Bangkok, Thailand. In September 2021, UNESCO-ICHEI signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) in cooperation with the SEAMEO Secretariat. In July 2022, UNESCO-ICHEI participated in the 2022 SEAMEO Regional Center Directors' Meeting. UNESCO Multisectional Regional Office in Bangkok The UNESCO Multisectional Regional Office in Bangkok (UNESCO Bangkok) was established in 2023, formerly known as the UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education. UNESCO Bangkok implements UNESCO's mission and practice in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam. represents UNESCO in the United Nations Regional Collaborative Platform in Asia and the Pacific, and serves as the secretariat of the Learning and Education 2030+ Networking Group in Asia and the Pacific. In January 2023, UNESCO-ICHEI and UNESCO Bangkok started a joint research programme on higher education digital transformation in Southeast Asia. ASEAN University Network(AUN) The ASEAN University Network(AUN) came into being in 1995 by Ministers responsible for Higher Education from ASEAN countries. The AUN was formed to address the need for the region to quickly develop a regional identity and solidarity while promoting the fostering of ASEAN talents by creating a platform to allow the region’s leading higher education institutions to collaborate. The AUN Secretariat carries out the operations of the AUN as determined by the AUN Board of Trustees. Chulalongkorn University Chulalongkorn University is a public autonomous research university in Bangkok, Thailand. The university was established as a national university in 1917, making it the oldest institute of higher education in Thailand. Chulalongkorn University is Thailand's most prestigious higher education institution, with many disciplines regarded as pioneers of higher education in Thailand. For the 14th consecutive year, Chulalongkorn University is ranked the first in Thailand according to the QS World University Rankings and is placed 224th in the world. In September 2022, UNESCO-ICHEI signed a MoU in cooperation with Chulalongkorn University. |
