The purpose of the meeting is to present an overview of AI applications in higher education, using various projects launched over the past two decades as a jumping off point. In the meeting, Ms DUAN shared the idea that instead of asking what AI can do for higher education, higher education also needs to consider how it can reform to adapt to AI. As an international organisation that works with higher education institutionss, government entities, private sectors and other international organisations, UNESCO-ICHEI is willing to to reconsider how we can bring an ecosystem that supports the application of AI.

Ms DUAN Xiaotong spoke at the meeting.

Created by the UNESCO General Conference in 1997, The UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC) is the only specialized institute within the United Nations system aiming to facilitate the improvement of higher education in UN's member States. It is also one of the organisers of the 2022 World Higher Education Conference (WHEC2022). Programs initiated by UNESCO IESALC run the gamut of Research, Capacity building, Technical cooperation, and concerted advocacy. In 2022, UNESCO IESALC and UNESCO-ICHEI officially established partnerships to improve the digital transformation of higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean.
