WHEC2022 Successfully Concluded in Barcelona
On May 20, 2022, the third World Higher Education Conference 2022 (WHEC2022) concluded successfully in Barcelona, Spain. Organised by UNESCO, the Conference took place from 18 to 20 May, with the theme of "Reinventing Higher Education for a Sustainable Future". The Conference brought together a wide range of stakeholders from the globe to discuss key issues for the next decade of global higher education development and to create a roadmap for the future of higher education towards 2030 and beyond.

The International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI) was invited to WHEC2022, organised two main events during the Conference and participated in various multilateral exchanges. On 16 May, UNESCO-ICHEI and UNESCO jointly organised the UNESCO-Shenzhen Funds-in-Trust (UNESCO-SFIT) Africa Project Outcome Meeting under the theme of "Strengthening Quality Assurance Systems to Build an Inclusive and Resilient Future for African Higher Education" within the framework of WHEC2022.The meeting systematically presented and summarised the results of UNESCO-SFIT Africa project and discussedquality assurance of online and blended higher education and potential topics of future collaboration. On 20 May, UNESCO-ICHEI, University of Nairobi (Kenya), Ain Shams University (Egypt), Universiti Putra Malaysia (Malaysia), and UNESCO co-hosted a roundtable meeting themed "IIOE: Towards a Shared Future of Higher Education Digital Transformation." This roundtable, together with partner higher education institutions (HEIs) and enterprises, jointly evaluated the achievements of IIOE so far, discussed IIOE's future development plan and set agendas on the way forward as IIOE and partners work towards a shared future of higher education digital transformation. Two meetings and multilateral exchanges have achieved fruitful outcomes.
