On the morning of June 15, 2023, the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Institute for Higher Education Development (SEAMEO RIHED) Director Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont and her team visited UNESCO-ICHEI. Professor Li Ming, Director of UNESCO-ICHEI, and the ICHEI team received the guests. ICHEI and RIHED exchanged ideas and discussed collaborations in higher education in Southeast Asia.

The discussion was chaired by Mr. Tan Bowen, Senior Programme Officer of the Asia-Pacific Programme Office at ICHEI. Professor Li Ming first extended a warm welcome to Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont and her team for visiting UNESCO-ICHEI. Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont introduced the history, development and mission of RIHED, and elaborated on their leadership training, regional mobility, and policy advocacy work. Mr. Xu Mingshun, Programme Officer of the Asia-Pacific Programme Office, introduced ICHEI's milestones and flaship projects since its establishment, and highlighted ICHEI‘s partner network and project development in the Asia-Pacific region. Mr. Xue Feng, chief of the IIOE Management Center at ICHEI, and Ms. Su Rui, researcher of the Higher Education Digital Transformation Research Institute at ICHEI, introduced the IIOE Micro-Credential for Higher Education Teaching Personnel project, and discussed potential collaboration on project implementation with RIHED in Southeast Asia.
Professor Li Ming mentioned that, since establishing partnership with SEAMEO Secretariat, UNESCO-ICHEI has been working with SEAMEO on higher education policy advocacy in Southeast Asia and capacity-building for teachers in higher education institutions, and has achieved good results. ICHEI expects to deepen cooperation with RIHED on teacher capacity building, micro-credentials and other related projects, and jointly promote digital transformation and high-quality development in the field of higher education in Southeast Asia.
After the meeting with UNESCO-ICHEI, Dr. Romyen Kosaikanont and her team visited the campus of Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) where ICHEI is based.

About Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Institute for Higher Education Development (SEAMEO RIHED) Originally conceived in 1959 as the Regional Institute for Higher Education and Development (RIHED) and founded in Singapore by UNESCO and the International Association of Universities in collaboration with the Ford Foundation. RIHED was later relocated to Bangkok as a Regional Centre under SEAMEO in 1993 specialising in Higher Education and Development (SEAMEO RIHED).
RIHED serves as the regional centre and clearing-house for higher education information and documentation. It assists Member Countries in fostering the efficiency and effectiveness of higher education with a focus on policy and planning as well as administrative and management processes through training and policy-oriented research.
