UNESCO-ICHEI met with the Executive Secretary of ANAQ-SUP of Senegal
On 19 May 2022, the delegation of International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI) to the World Higher Education Conference (WHEC2022) in Spain met with Professor Lamine Gueye, Executive Secretary of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, Research and Innovation (ANAQ-SUP) of Senegal. Ms. Bi Xiaohan, Assistant Director and Cheif of the West Asia and Africa Programme, introduced the UNESCO-ICHEI's main programmes and highlighted the international joint research and application of the IIOE Quality Assurance Framework and Toolkit for Driving and Supporting Online and Blended Teaching and Learning (IIOE QA 2.0). Professor Lamine Gueye introduced the main functions and work of ANAQ-SUP, expressed his high interest in the work of UNESCO-ICHEI, and hoped to develop further cooperation with UNESCO-ICHEI.
Established in 2012, the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, Research and Inovation (ANAQ-SUP) in Senegal was one of the first quality assurance agencies to be established in West Africa and French-speaking Africa. Its main responsibilities include:
- Design and implement a quality assurance system that is appropriate to the objectives and requirements of higher education, research and innovation.
- Establish formal procedures and define criteria for the quality assessment of HEIs as well as research and innovation institutions.
- Provide technical consultation to the Minister of Higher Education on accreditation request from HEIs as well as research and innovation institutions.
- Regular evaluation of higher education institutions, research and innovation institutions.
- Assist and support higher education institutions, research and innovation institutions in developing and implementing internal quality assurance and self-evaluation processes.
- Regular evaluation of programmes and trainings offered by institutions.
Both parties agreed on two points for future cooperation. Firstly, ANAQ-SUP will facilitate collaboration between UNESCO-ICHEI and Senegalese universities, such as Cheikh Anta Diop University and the Virtual University of Senegal. Secondly, UNESCO-ICHEI will explore with ANAQ-SUP ways to complement and improve the quality assurance system of higher education in Senegal applying the IIOE QA 2.0, and to promote the framework in other French-speaking African countries. Dr Feng Siyuan, Chief of the Knowledge Production and Communication Centre from UNESCO-ICHEI also attended the meeting.
